A huge congratulations to Ivo Mihalkov in becoming the CI International Singles champion in 2024 for the very first time. In a very tense and strategic final which went to the hill, Ivo won 6-5 against Jerseys top player Dave Snell. Ivo started the match as the underdog, but he had just beaten one of Yeovil’s top players Chris “Bart” Jones 6-5 in a very close match, so he was in the zone and really focused. Dave Snell got to the final by beating Jerseys Matt Barker.

In the tournament Yeovil were the team KO and league champions with Jersey A the runners in in the league and KO. So very unlucky Jersey A and a big congratulations to Yeovil in winning the CI Internationals for the first time after coming to Jersey many years to compete in this event.  The losing semi-finalists in the league and KO were Jersey B and Exmouth, so a well done to both teams to getting to the semis.

There was also a doubles tournament on the Thursday night in which all the players were drawn out of a hat and a KO to the finish. Jerseys Peter Gaye and Exmouth player George Webster beat Jersey players Matt Barker and Dougie Prentice in the final.

There must also be a very big and massive thank to the tournament director and organiser Paul Bolton, for running such an amazing pool tournament, like he does every year and for the last 22 years when this event started. Paul has been involved in many events, such as hosting the European championships 23 years ago. The event started the year after hosting the Europeans with over 500 players involved.  He was the Chairman of the C I Pool Association for many years as well as coaching juniors every Saturday and Sunday in the old 147 Club, as well as traveling to Guernsey once a week to coach the juniors there. Most of these ex-juniors have been representing the islands in World and European events for many years

It was clear that a lot of hard work and thought went into making this event a huge success and Paul was very generous in the prize fund which was over £5,000 in cash and trophies for all the winners. Also a very big thank you to all the staff behind the bar who worked long hours, always smiling and went out of there way to help everyone, from start to end.

The competition was fierce with three teams from England, two representing Portugal and three representing Jersey, yet the camaraderie among the participants created a fantastic environment that everyone enjoyed.
